A Trade Efficiency and the House of Winds signed, this Monday (05), a pre-contract with Complexo do Pecém (CIPP S/A), in Ceará, for the installation of a manufacturing unit for green hydrogen and ammonia production with its first phase scheduled to begin operation in 2026.

The project, which has been worked on since 2021 between the parties, now moves to the environmental licensing and basic design phase to begin its implementation, which will be divided into stages.

When at full operational capacity, the project will have a capacity of up to 2.4 GW of electrolysis, producing more than a thousand tons of hydrogen per day, enabling the delivery of 2.2 million tons of green ammonia per year.

Previously, Comerc Eficiência and Casa dos Ventos had already signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the state government of Ceará and another with Complexo do Pecém itself to ensure their participation in the project.

The plant, which will occupy an area of up to 60 hectares in ZPE Ceará, will avoid the emission of up to 430 thousand tons of CO2 per month, through the generation of H2V (green hydrogen) instead of gray hydrogen, which emits 2.4 kg of CO2 for every kilogram of gray ammonia produced, thus bringing a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

“Ceará is located in a region with efficient and abundant energy resources, combined with a strategic position for foreign trade. These factors enable us to export our renewable energy in the form of green energy drinks in a very competitive way globally”, stated Lucas Araripe, director of new business at Casa dos Ventos.

“H2V has immense potential to be, if not the main one, but one of the main agents in the global energy transition towards net zero. Here in Brazil, with the abundance of energy sources such as solar and wind, this scenario is extremely favorable for placing us as one of the biggest players in the world”, highlighted Marcel Haratz, President of Comerc Eficiência.

“Therefore, it is a great pleasure to have Comerc Eficiência at the forefront of an innovative project that takes another step towards a sustainable economy, opening up new possibilities for generating wealth for the country and creating thousands of jobs”, he added.

This is the third pre-contract signed for the Pecém Complex Hydrogen Hub, which also has 24 memorandums of understanding signed with Brazilian and foreign companies.

“We are very pleased with the signing of this pre-contract signed with Casa do Ventos e Comerc. It is the third pre-contract we have signed for large-scale green hydrogen production in Brazil. It is the recognition of important companies in the market”, celebrated Danilo Serpa, president of Complexo do Pecém.

“In other words, more players are joining this strategic energy transition project that we have been developing here in Ceará since the beginning of last year. The Pecém Complex H2V Hub is a reality”, he concluded.

About the Pecém Complex

The result of a joint venture formed by the Government of Ceará and the Port of Rotterdam – the largest and main port in Europe, the complex is a space for boosting the economy in Ceará, as it promotes industrial, economic and social development for the state and the Brazilian Northeast.

With more than 19 thousand hectares of area, it has robust infrastructure, a privileged geographic location and also stands out as the home of H2V in Brazil, as it houses the first projects in the area in the country.

The project is made up of three major fronts: the Industrial area, which has some of the main manufacturing units in the Brazilian Northeast; Porto do Pecém, a world-class offshore terminal, which in 2021 handled more than 22 million tons; and ZPE Ceará, the first Export Processing Zone to operate in Brazil.
