Copel (Companhia Paranaense de Energia) opened, this Wednesday (18), the Public Call for the contracting of energy from self-generators, such as, for example, photovoltaic plants and CGH (Hydroelectric Generating Plants). The deadline for requesting clarifications is 5pm on January 15, 2021 and the selected proposals will be announced from May 17, 2021. Copel's pilot project, authorized by ANEEL (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica ), will last five years and is unprecedented in Brazil. The company plans to contract up to 50 average MW of energy in this modality, equivalent to 438 thousand MWh/year or 1.91 TP3T of the company's annual load. According to Copel, the objective of the call is to attract small and medium-sized independent producers, including mini-generators, with the capacity to operate isolated or connected to the distribution network, taking advantage of Paraná's energy potential. Self-generators that have built a microgrid or an independent electrical system that works as an “energy island” will be able to sell the energy to Copel, supplying a group of nearby consumers. The company will be responsible for the control and safety of the operation. Improvements need to involve reducing customer service time and encouraging innovation and technological integration.
