Brazil ended the first month of the year with 128.5 MW of solar power installed in DG (distributed generation). This is a brand that already makes 2022 the 5th year with the highest accumulated volume of the source, behind only 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.

However, according to professionals interviewed by the Solar Channel, this is just the beginning. In all other years, solar power installed on roofs, facades and small plots of land, between the months of January and December, was almost always less than 50 MW.

In 2016, for example, 49.2 MW were injected into the distribution network, according to a survey carried out by Canal Solar, based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency). Because of this, the sector's expectation is that 2022 becomes another year of records for the segment in Brazil and with an even greater volume of acquisitions.

“Until April it will be a period of budgets and order speculation. The projects should really start to be converted from the middle of the year”, he said Rafael Santos, Business Developer at Ereng Arteon.

If in 2021, the country ended the year with 3.86 GW accumulated between January and December, projections show that the source should surpass this mark throughout the twelve months of the year. “We believe it will be a much better year than 2021, especially because of the publication of Law 14,300, which will enable clients to make more assertive decisions in the market,” added Santos.

During the webinar  “Photovoltaic sector trends for 2022”, carried out by Canal Solar, Leandro Martins, president of Ecori, and Gustavo Tegon, business director of Esfera Solar, also estimated that GD solar should grow around 8 GW this year, reaching a total of almost 16 GW of installed power.

In the executives' assessment, this is because the sector is more stabilized in 2022. Furthermore, they highlight that manufacturers, whether of wafers, cells or modules, are increasing their production, that is, gaining an increasingly larger market scale.

January 2022

In addition to the 128.5 MW of installed power, the first month of 2022 ended with just over 14.5 thousand distribution systems connected to the grid between January 1st and 31st. Among the Brazilian states, the one with the highest installed power was Minas Gerais, with 28.88 MW, followed by Rio Grande do Sul (17.95 MW); São Paulo (16.53 MW), Pará (11.4 MW) and Ceará (10.06 MW).

Regarding consumption classes, residential occupied more than 75% of installations registered in the country in January, with 72.89 MW. Next, there were the following classes: commercial (28.8 MW), rural (18.34 MW) and industrial (5.63 MW).
