A EDP signed a contract for the purchase of AES Inova, AES Brasil's distributed generation investment platform. With the operation, the company will increase the size of its portfolio of energy efficiency programs by 50%, advancing its growth strategy in the photovoltaic sector.

The estimated contribution is approximately R$ 177 million, considering the acquisition value of R$ 101.7 million and the Capex (expenses or investments in capital goods) for the development of the projects.

According to the company, the closing of the deal adds around 34 MWp to EDP Smart – the division that brings together the portfolio of energy solutions – through assets located in Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo and Minas Gerais. Of this total, around 16 MWp refer to projects contracted and in commercial operation.

The remaining 18 MWp refer to projects ready to build (ready to be built) in Minas Gerais, which will allow EDP to develop the work, contract in a strategic market and take advantage of operational synergies with other assets in the region.

“This operation represents for us an excellent combination between contracted projects – which means guaranteed revenue and risk mitigation – and under construction – in which we stand out for the excellence of delivery within the predefined time and cost”, highlighted João Marques da Cruz, CEO of EDP in Brazil.

“This is another firm step by EDP towards its objective of leading the energy transition in the country, investing heavily in distributed and centralized solar generation”, he added.

Solar projects

The company announced that it completed nine energy solutions initiatives in 2020 and ended the year with 65.3 MWp of solar in its portfolio.

EDP has already delivered 34.5 MWp in photovoltaic projects to customers. Among them, Banco do Brasil, TIM, Claro, and Johnson & Johnson, and has 30.8 MWp under development.
