EDP leads the Business Sustainability Index for the 2nd consecutive year

The company, which aims to achieve net zero by 2030, is advancing with investments in distribution, transmission and solar energy

EDP, a company that operates across the entire Brazilian electricity sector chain, achieved, for the second consecutive year, 1st place in the general ranking of B3's ISE (Business Sustainability Index) portfolio.

It is the 17th consecutive time that the company has been included in the portfolio. In this edition, its rating increased by 2.13 points, with scores above the sector average in 05 dimensions — Human Capital, Corporate Governance and Senior Management, Social Capital, Environment and Climate Change.

“More than an achievement, being the first company in the ISE portfolio, for the second consecutive year, is recognition of what we practice day after day, based on our strategy that is based on the ESG pillars”, highlights João Marques from Cruz, CEO of EDP in Brazil.

“We have been following this path for years, out of conviction, because we know the importance of taking responsible action, especially in the electricity sector, and how much we can contribute, even more, through a fair energy transition”, he highlights.

In search of net zero

The company is seeking to advance investments in distribution, transmission and solar energy, with the ambition to lead the energy transition and a global goal of becoming 100% green by 2030.

Currently, it has been executing two large-scale photovoltaic projects in the country: the Novo Oriente solar plants, in Ilha Solteira (SP), with a capacity of 254 MWac, and Monte Verde, which covers the municipalities of Pedro Avelino, Lajes and Jandaíra (RN) and has an installed capacity of 209 MWac. The plants are expected to be operational in 2024.

Another point emphasized by the company is that it was the first in the energy sector in Latin America and the first large company in Brazil to have its CO2 emissions reduction target approved by the international Science Based Targets initiative, which mobilizes companies to make commitments to reduce the release of gases related to the greenhouse effect based on science.

HI IF

A pioneer in Latin America and the fourth sustainability index created in the world, the ISE was launched by B3 in 2005, with initial financing by IFC (International Finance Corporation), the financial arm of the World Bank.
