Enel Green Power Brasil, a subsidiary of the Italian group Enel, reported this month that it has started construction of five new projects in the Northeast, four of which are wind and one solar. Together, they will add up to 1.3 GW of power.

In total, R$ 5.6 billion will be invested in the implementation of the projects, which will be capable of generating 5.5 TWh of energy per year, avoiding the emission of approximately 3 million tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere annually.

According to the company, the new parks, located in Piauí, Bahia, Rio Grande do Norte and Pernambuco, will be supported by energy supply contracts negotiated with corporate clients on the free market and should begin operating in 2021.

“The start of construction of 1.3 GW of new renewable capacity is an unprecedented milestone in the history of our company in Brazil, especially given the challenges imposed by the current scenario”, highlighted Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power.

“These new projects highlight our commitment to the expansion of the Brazilian renewable energy sector, in order to diversify the country's energy matrix, as well as contribute to the economic and social development of the communities in which we are present”, concluded Bernabei.

In Brazil, the Enel Group, through its subsidiaries EGPB and Enel Brasil, has a total installed renewable capacity of 3.4 GW, of which 1,210 MW are from wind, 979 MW from solar and 1,269 MW from hydro.
