O Brazil surpassed the mark of 27 GW of operational capacity in solar energy, adding up the own generation systems (distributed generation) and large plants (centralized generation). This is what data recorded by the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

According to the Agency's figures, the font practically doubled in size in the country in a year – jumping from 14 GW in March 2022 to the current 27 GW. Since July last year, technology has been adding at least 1 GW per month to the national electrical matrix.

Only in the segment of distributed generation already are 18.75 GW of installed power, with 49.2% of this total being from residential installations (9.24 GW). In total, there are already just over 1.79 million photovoltaic connections in micro and mini distributed generation.

Currently, the regions with the highest volumes of installed power in this modality are: Southeast (6.27 GW); South (4.73 GW); Northeast (3.73 GW); Midwest (2.83 GW) and North (1.19 GW), respectively.

Already in centralized generation they are 8.27 GW of accumulated power, with more than 18 thousand large plants in operation in the country. Among the states that stand out are: Minas Gerais, with 2.58 GW; Piauí, with 1.46 GW; and Bahia, with 1.35 GW.

Investments

According to data updated by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association), the photovoltaic source has already been responsible for capturing more than R$ 129.6 billion in investments in Brazil since the beginning of the source's expansion in 2012.

During this period, according to the association, solar energy also helped the country create 781.6 thousand direct jobs and prevent the emission of 34.5 million tons of C02 into the atmosphere.

On Monday (20), the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) of the UN (United Nations) released the summary report of its current cycle of assessments on the advancement of global warming in the world, where identified that the planet needs to invest in solar and wind energy to guarantee the survival of human life and nature.
