A ETA (Water treatment station) Cubatão, in Palhoça (SC), will receive starting this year, the installation of a solar energy system.

The start of operation of the technology is expected to occur In September, with one economy annual amount of up to R$ 300 thousand, the equivalent of R$ 3 million in a decade.

This corresponds to 48% of energy spent by the unit, which has a capacity for 180 million liters of treated water and supplies five municipalities in the Metropolitan Region of Santa Catarina.

O investment made is R$ 1.3 million, as contract for the implementation of solar panels and other equipment, having been signed by CASAN (Santa Catarina Water and Sanitation Company) with the company B&F Solar. The expectation is that the amount invested (payback) return within five years.

A initiative also will serve as a pilot project for other sanitation company stations in the state.

“CASAN spends around R$ 137 million annually on electricity alone. This corresponds to 9.2% of all company expenses. It only loses in value for the payroll”, explains Guilherme Campos, manager of operational policies at the company.

Annual generation

According to CASAN, the photovoltaic system at ETA Cubatão will be installed in an area with high insolation, generating up to 577,090 kWh of annual energy.

This is equivalent to annual consumption of 320 homes popular in the south of Brazil, according to data from the IPEA (Institute of Applied Economic Research).

As it is clean and renewable energy, the company will be tariff-free for 25 years, with no tariff flags.

Solar energy will also minimize the impact caused by the company's carbon emissions, resulting from the consumption of energy generated in other locations.

A The initiative is part of the company's strategy to meet the goals of the Santa Catarina SDG Movement, of which she became a signatory in 2021.

The movement seeks to fulfill the so-called 2030 Agenda of UN (United Nations), which includes increasing the global use of renewable energy as one of its main objectives.
