Facebook assina PPA de energia solar para abastecer datacenters em Singapura

Facebook signed a PPA (solar energy purchase agreement) with the company Sunseap Group, based in Singapore, to supply its data centers and offices, located in the region, through solar energy.

The system is expected to be ready in 2022, with a peak capacity of 100 MW produced by panels installed in 1,200 apartment buildings and 49 public offices.

According to Lawrence Wu, president of Sunseap, this agreement is a watershed in the decarbonization process in Asia. “We believe that PPAs are the path for companies that want to accelerate their efforts to adopt renewable energy into their energy matrix”, he highlighted.

In August and September this year, Facebook signed PPAs for the Rocket projects in Box Elder County, Horseshoe in Tooele County, both in Utah (USA) and for the Lincoln Land Wind project, currently under construction in Morgan County, Illinois (USA).

Last year, the company disclosed that it had achieved 86% of 100% of renewable energy target and 59% of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition to Facebook, Apple agreed to supply clean energy with Sunseap in 2015. Google, on the other hand,  made a commitment to zero carbon emissions by 2030.

The multinational company, which is expected to use solar panels in 500 apartment buildings, also stated that in the future it could use batteries to store photovoltaic energy at night, in addition to seeking emerging sources such as geothermal reservoirs and better managing energy needs.
