Amidst the countless tents that protect bathers from the sun in Praia Grande, in Ubatuba (SP), one trailer stands out for taking full advantage of the benefits of sunlight Summer.

With the dream of opening their own business, the couple of teachers, Leandro Lagoz, 51 years old, and Sitayne Lira, 44 years old, bet on solar energy to sell Hawaiian slushies and snacks by the sea.

Instead of diesel generators, photovoltaic panels were installed on the roof of the couple's trailer. with the aim of having renewable energy without needing to connect to the distribution network.

A generated energy during the period in which they and their children work (morning and afternoon) is used instantly to meet the consumption of Ocean Shave Ice – the name of the family’s business enterprise.

Sunlight thus ensures the functioning of the ice crusher for slushies, the refrigerator for storing supplies and a hot display to keep snacks warm.

O remaining energy generated by photovoltaic panels and which is not used remains stored in a battery. As the system is not connected to the electrical distribution network, the establishment does not bear availability costs.

The couple says that the initiative came about after carrying out research to understand how they could have electricity in their trailer without having to rely on polluting sources, such as diesel generators.

After learning about the benefits of the solar source, the family decided to look for companies that could carry out the installation service.

In total, they were installed in the vehicle four solar panels Sunova 555W of power, a 5kW inverter from Growatt with integrated Wi-Fi is 4.8 kWh lithium battery from Unipower. The capacity of the photovoltaic system is 2,220 Wp.

Lagoz says that the photovoltaic system installed solar system attracts the attention of tourists, who not only became interested in the scratch cards, but also in the fountain and more sustainable practices.

“When we started designing our project, we thought a lot about environmental issues. It is a beach (Praia Grande) that suffers a huge impact from tourists and one of the things we thought about was environmental education”, said the professor.

In addition to the solar energy system, the project is fully equipped to ensure the well-being of the environment, with the use of trash cans next to the trailer and paper or reforested wood utensils.

“We joke that our trailer is a little green dot in the middle of Praia Grande. In addition to selling products, we are also trying to provide environmental education to our customers and other people who work on the beach”, said Sitayne.
