The volume of financing for solar energy systems, both in large power plants as for distributed micro and minigeneration, surpassed the mark of R$ 35.1 billion in 2022 - one increase of 78% in relation to R$ 19.7 billion 2021.

The data comes from a survey published by Cell (Clean Energy Latin America), which to arrive at the numbers used information from public and private financial institutions, fintechs and credit unions.

According to the study, the value financing for power plants GC (centralized generation) more than doubled compared to the two periods analyzed, jumping from R$ 6.7 billion in 2021 to R$ 13.7 billion in 2022.

The contribution to DG systems (distributed generation) grew by more than 60% in 2022, with the injection of R$ 21.4 billion compared to R$ 13 billion in the previous year.

This is fourth consecutive year that the volume collected with the financing of solar energy systems breaks record in Brazil, even at a time when the basic interest rate is 13.75% per year, the highest since January 2017.

According to Cela, in addition to the natural growth of solar energy in Brazil – with more and more people becoming interested in the benefits of the source – other reasons help explain the increase in the volume of credits granted.

For DG systems, the sanction of Law 14,300 was responsible for creating a race for technology throughout last year – since consumers who forwarded the request to their connections by January 6, 2023 would be exempt from paying the fee for using the distributor's network until 2045.

In the case of centralized enterprises, the increase was driven by contracts signed in Mercado Livre de Energia and for  Law 14,120, which provided for transition rules for the end of the discount on TUSD and TUST (Tariffs for the Use of Distribution and Transmission Systems) for large plants.
