Financing boosts installations of solar energy systems

The increase in requests for credit lines is driven by the rise in electricity bills and the fall in equipment prices

The rise in the cost of electricity has increasingly increased the search for financing lines for the installation of photovoltaic systems.

According to mapping carried out by Solar Channel, based on Santander data, demand for credit for photovoltaic projects increased by more than 80% in 2021, compared to last year.

From January to October this year, the bank has already granted more than R$ 4 billion to finance photovoltaic projects. According to the institution, this amount is greater than the credit granted throughout 2020.

“The increase in searches this year was even more intense among individuals, with four times more demand than last year among customers interested in exchanging their conventional energy bill for the financing portion”, highlights Fábio Mascarin, superintendent of Santander Financiamentos Business Strategy.

For the executive, the increase in the number of credit granted by Santander is being driven by several factors. “The search for sustainable energy is achieved through greater dissemination in the market of the benefits of this new form of generation, through the democratization of credit and cheaper equipment”, he emphasized.

“However, in 2021, more intensely than in other years, the recurring increase in standard energy has been a great incentive for those who want to reduce the cost of energy in the long term, in addition to the fact that in many cases, financing is already more cheaper than the monthly bill”, he adds.

Solar sector attracts more banks

Recently, Caixa Econômica Federal launched “CAIXA Renewable Energy for individuals” – a credit line aimed at individuals financing the installation of photovoltaic solar energy systems in homes.

The credit will have rates starting at 1.17%, will allow financing of up to 100% of the implementation project, will have a grace period of up to six months to pay the first installment and the payment period will be 60 months.

“We know that the solar energy market grows exponentially every year. The credit lines allowed lower class customers to exchange their savings on electricity bills and pay the financing installments. This new financing from Caixa Econômica Federal will make financing even more viable for all classes A, B, C and D”, comments Artur Cantador Bernardo, commercial director of Dinâmica Energia Solar.

“Normally, consumers look for credit that combines the savings generated with solar energy and the financing installments, so as not to burden monthly expenses, that is, replacing the savings with the financing installment. Attractive final rates, grace period to start paying and payment deadline are the points that customers should pay attention to”, he concludes.
