Renewable sources will supply tourist complex in RJ

The project will generate up to 13.1 GWh per year of electrical energy through photovoltaic panels and glass

Betting on sustainable technologies, the Maraey project, which will be built in Maricá (RJ), expects to generate up to 13.1 GWh per year of electrical energy through photovoltaic panels and glass.

The objective is that more than 35% of the electrical energy generated in common areas and buildings in the space is supplied through clean sources. In addition to solar energy, the venture is studying the use of other renewable energy sources, such as biogas and geothermal energy.

“We are using the most advanced technologies on the market to develop an exemplary enterprise and, consequently, help create a healthier, more sustainable and resilient community”, says Emilio Izquierdo, CEO of Maraey.

The executive explains that in the first phase of construction, approximately 57 thousand square meters of photovoltaic solar panels will be installed, which will be installed on the roofs of buildings and in infrastructure lots with larger areas, such as in areas close to ETEs (Treatment Stations). of Sewage), where the land will be transformed into a “solar farm”.

In addition, more than 17 thousand square meters of photovoltaic glass will be installed on facades, skylights, pergola covers and marquees. The investment will be approximately R$ 1 billion over the next nine years, which represents approximately 10% of the total investment value of the project.

Electric mobility

Another differentiator of the project is the use of electric or hybrid vehicles. To this end, charging stations will be installed in parking spaces, both with public access, in various parts of the complex, and in all residences.

It is estimated that when the project is fully operational, more than 8,000 hybrid and electric vehicles will circulate through the complex.

About Maraey

The Maraey project belongs to IDB, a company formed by a group of international businesspeople – Spanish, Brazilian, American and Chinese – led by the Cetya Group and the Abacus Group.

The space will feature five-star hotels, with the capacity to receive approximately 300,000 tourists per year. Furthermore, housing is planned with integrated services such as school, hospital, shopping and business, as well as numerous leisure and sporting activities. The development also includes a hospitality university.

The second largest Private Restinga Natural Heritage Reserve in the State of Rio will also be created in the project. The project also includes an environmental research center that has the support of renowned academic institutions such as UFRJ, UFF, UFRRJ, UFES and FURG.

In addition, around 200 fishing families living in the community of Zacarias, in the project area, will benefit from land regularization, with the transfer of property titles and delivery of definitive deeds to residents.

The anticipated private investment for the venture is around R$ 11 billion. The forecast is that more than 36 thousand jobs will be created when the space is fully operational.
