The fabrich car multinational Ford Motor Company, announced, last Tuesday (17), that it built new 2 MW photovoltaic complex, located in the municipality of Almussafes, in Valencia, Spain. The objective is to expand vehicle sales in Europe, with electric 100% models.
The Ford Almussafes factory, as well as the supply of all the company's manufacturing facilities, uses electrical energy from renewable sources since January 2022.
The project, which began operations at the end of 2022, generates approximately 4,641 MWh per year. According to the multinational, the Valencia factory will record a significant reduction in its electricity needs from the public grid.
According to Stuart Southgate, director of sustainable, environmental and safety engineering at Ford Europe, the company, more than ever, realizes the importance and necessity of using renewable sources.
“At Ford, as we move towards an all-electric future and carbon neutrality across all our production, investments in innovation represent an important driver of our ambition to contribute to building a better world,” he says.
Southgate also emphasizes that the company continues on its mission to expand the areas with installed solar panels, aiming to reach 10 MWp in 2024. Furthermore, the feasibility of potential future installations of photovoltaic modules on the roofs of factory buildings is also under analysis.
The objective is to develop strategic means to increase the use of renewable energy, in order to utilize fully decarbonized electricity in all manufacturing facilities worldwide by 2035.
