The city hall of Foz do Iguaçu created a law to encourage the use of solar energy in municipal public buildings. Law No. 5,267 was sanctioned by Mayor Chico Brasileiro and published in the Official Gazette this week.

“In other words, in new tenders for constructions, renovations or expansions of public buildings, such as schools, Cmeis, health units and others, the mandatory solar energy system must be included in the notice”, explains planning secretary Andrey Bachixta.

Solar energy systems must be sized to meet at least 40% of the projected annual energy consumption, depending on the consumption profile and technical characteristics of the building.

The installation must consider the technical and economic viability of each technology and its best use to reduce energy consumption, according to the characteristics and purpose of the building for which it is intended.

The obligation does not apply to buildings that present shading conditions and limited physical space that make the installation of the photovoltaic system unfeasible.
