France will allocate 500 million euros to the renewable energy sector

Emmanuel Macron's plans for Agenda 2030 could accelerate the photovoltaic market
Agenda 2030: 500 milhões de euros para o setor de energias renováveis
Ten objectives were announced as main goals that must be achieved by 2030

SAARBRÜCKEN, GERMANY. Currently, not only France, but all of Europe is going through a time of concern about the increase in the price of gas and coal, mainly due to the pandemic.

Increasingly, governments are seeking measures that can, as quickly and effectively as possible, accelerate investments in the renewable energy sector, especially wind and photovoltaic. Climate issues are also a catalyst in causing immediate solutions to replace electricity generated by fossil sources.

With the plans presented last Tuesday (12), the president wants to make France a sustainable model. A restructuring of the economic and industrial sector that will cost 30 billion euros over five years.

Ten objectives were announced as main goals that must be achieved by 2030. Check out the most important points for the renewable energy sector.

Nuclear energy

The government will allocate 1 billion euros to the construction of small nuclear reactors (SMR) which, according to Macron, have the greatest advantage as they are safer. The objective is to use nuclear energy to produce green hydrogen, replacing the use of fossil fuels. Still within the same sector, the goal is to reduce nuclear waste.

To this end, the country will count on the construction of “two gigafactories or electrolytics” which, according to the head of state, will contribute to the decarbonization of industry, and mentions the steel, cement and chemical production sectors, which will be able to benefit from technology and replace fossil fuels.

Industry decarbonization

Around 8 billion euros will be allocated to the industrial sector. Through the decarbonization of industries, the government wants to achieve a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of up to 35%. The president also mentions that the country has already reached 4% of the target, between 2015 and 2021.

Sustainable mobility: 2 million hybrid and electric vehicles by 2030

The transport sector will receive an investment of 4 billion euros that will be used to build “clean mobility”. Aware of the crisis that the sector has been suffering over the last 30 years, Emmanuel Macron counts on the cooperation of the main companies in the sector to make these objectives achievable.

First low-carbon plane by 2030

Although experts say that achieving this objective requires a longer period of time, until 2035, Emmanuel Macron remains optimistic about the possibility. According to the president, this is a matter of cooperation and mobilization, and compares this goal to the vaccine, which experts also stated would require more time to develop.

Agri-food industry: healthy and sustainable eating

With the aim of producing healthy, sustainable and traceable food (traceable food), the government will invest 2 billion euros in the agri-food industry, an investment that should also be used in digital, robotics and genetic technology, for the development of the sector. Among the goals are: decarbonizing agricultural production, reducing the use of pesticides, improving quality and productivity, in addition to developing bio-solutions.

What do the 2030 Agenda goals bring to the photovoltaic sector in France?

According to the newspaper “Le Figaro”, the energy industry benefits from the 2030 Agenda plans, as the sector has stood out with a positive balance within the country. Companies such as McPhy Energy, nuclear company EDF and renewable energy producer Neoen “stood out with increases of 13.1%, 2.94% and 2.9%” currently, the paper states.

With the investment package destined for the renewable energy sector, 500 million euros, Emmanuel Macron mentioned the transfer of the production of equipment such as photovoltaic or floating cells and wind turbines to French territory.

Solar energy is experiencing constant progress in France. According to a note published on the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the country, on October 7th, Minister Barbara Pompili signed a decree facilitating the development of large-scale roofing projects.

The decree will benefit all projects with less than 500 kW, which will be entitled to a supply tariff without the need for bidding. The measure simplifies the construction of solar panel areas on already constructed land, such as on the roofs of commercial and agricultural buildings.
