It was filed this Tuesday (16) the Senate Resolution Project No. 64, of 2021, which establishes the Mixed Parliamentary Front for Electromobility.

The proposal, authored by senator Rodrigo Cunha (PSDB/AL), aims to promote debates and initiatives regarding public policies, and other measures, that encourage electric mobility in Brazil.

The project was supported by ABVE (Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association) and will have a commission made up of parliamentarians from the Federal Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

In justification, the text says that electromobility is the most important tool for changing the chaotic reality of cities. “Inexpensive, fast and without polluting, it is capable of transforming the lives of each of the inhabitants of a city, directly or indirectly”.

“In view of well-being and quality of life, electromobility means fewer respiratory diseases caused by pollution which, according to the Ministry of Health, have increased by more than 14% in the last ten years, consuming more than 1.5 billion reais annually from the public budget ”, says the proposal.

According to the WHO (World Health Organization), 50 thousand Brazilians die every year from diseases caused by air pollution, such as lung cancer, heart disease and stroke.

Furthermore, the project highlights that electric mobility – through the use of renewable energies such as wind and solar – makes it compatible in a single technological system: the joint transformation of the automotive and energy sectors.

The document also highlights that Brazil is a pioneer in electromobility, as it has the mineral resources necessary for energy expansion and development.

“An example of an abundant and important ore for the sector in Brazil is copper – as it is one of the best conductors of electricity and has a powerful thermal capacity – copper is part of the composition of cables and other mechanisms of wind turbines and photovoltaic panels”, he added. the text.

EV market analysis

According to Adalberto Maluf, president of ABVE, electromobility took a giant leap forward last year. In 2021, for example, sales of EVs (electric vehicles) are expected to jump from 11%, in 2020, to more than 20% worldwide. “In Brazil, sales should also grow, but from 1% to around 1.5%, which is very little compared to the rest of the world.”

Therefore, in his view, it is mandatory that the country quickly coordinate science and technology efforts between industry, public authorities and civil society to promote the sector and develop new technologies in flex hybrids and EVs and densify the entire lithium chain. in Brazil.

“Therefore, the importance of the Parliamentary Front in defense of electric mobility, whose objective will be precisely to bring such innovations closer to the Brazilian reality”, he highlighted.
