Furnas will hold an auction to purchase energy from solar and wind plants

Furnas vai realizar leilão para compra de energia de usinas solares e eólicas

For the first time, the state-owned Furnas, a subsidiary of Eletrobras, will hold an auction for the long-term purchase of incentivized electricity from new wind and solar sources projects in the ACL (Free Contracting Environment). The event takes place on November 12th and is exclusive to generating agents.

Interested parties will be able to offer four products: two deliveries of wind energy and two of solar energy in the Southeast/Central-West, South and Northeast submarkets from 2024 to 2038. The company did not explain how much energy it intends to contract.

“The total demand and per product will depend on the supply during the auction”, said Rodrigo Marques, Furnas Commercialization Manager.

Marques also highlighted that with the changes in the electricity sector, which gave more dynamism to the ACL, this marketing strategy is now considered a trend for Furnas as well.

In the statement about the auction, the Eletrobras subsidiary noted that the energy sold in the auction would still have the tariff discounts offered to “incentivized” sources (wind, solar, biomass and PCHs). A Provisional Measure 998/2020, published at the beginning of September by the federal government, foresees the withdrawal of these subsidies after a transition period.
