GCL-Poly innovates in polysilicon manufacturing center

GCL-Poly, one of the world's leading polysilicon producers, has started construction of its new production facility. According to the company, the space will produce 54 thousand MT (metric tons) of the material.

With a total investment of RMB 4.7 billion (US$ 686.6 million), the project will be constructed in two phases. Phase 1, already started, will have a capacity of 30 thousand MT by June 2021, and will be expanded to 54 thousand MT by the end of 2022.

The company will use its FBR (fluidized bed reactor) method for mass production of silicon at the facility, used for continuous single-crystalline silicon crystal extraction and preparation of high-efficiency polycrystalline silicon ingots.

According to GCL-Poly, the method allows for a shorter production process with fewer post-processing steps, in addition to having a cheaper investment cost 30%. Energy consumption is also approximately 65% lower than more traditional methods and requires 30% less labor.

The expansion, based on Jiangsu Zhongneng's annual silicon particle production capacity of 9,000 MT, will further alleviate the growing demand for reinjected materials in the monocrystalline silicon market. Furthermore, it will provide GCL intelligent manufacturing products with higher technology, better process and lower cost for grid parity of China's photovoltaic industry.
