GD solar reaches the milestone of 400 thousand connections in Brazil

Brazil has more than 400,000 solar DG (distributed generation) system connections and 4.7 GW of installed power, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association) considered the milestone a demonstration of the strength of solar DG. “Today’s record is an important step for the segment and shows that the country is increasingly solar. Still, the solar opportunities are immense and we still have a lot to grow”, published the association on social media.

For the president of ABGD (Brazilian Association of Distributed Generation), Carlos Evangelista, this brand makes it clear that consumers are increasingly aware, looking for new alternatives to reduce costs and paying attention to the principles of sustainability.

“The profile of consumers in Brazil has changed. This means that the search for energy alternatives has been discussed by many and put into practice conscientiously”, stated Evangelista.

Distributed energy generation can be carried out with different sources. Among them, solar photovoltaics, biogas, wind systems, PCHs (Small Hydraulic Plants), biomass, urban solid waste, green hydrogen, among other renewable sources.

Evangelista highlights that many Brazilians are still unaware of the potential and importance of these sources in the country's energy matrix. “Although it has numerous benefits, there are still some myths about GD that we always seek to clarify. One of them is that it can only be done by large businesspeople or consumers with greater purchasing power. Today, there are projects of all sizes, with lower or higher costs, and with diverse sources”.

The executive also commented that GD is a path to the country's economic recovery after the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“In addition to generating savings for consumers, it also enhances the use of local resources and stimulates the economy, generates qualified jobs and contributes to sustainable development. The modality's growth projection for this year is greater than 50%. As a result, the DG segment should end 2021 with an installed capacity of more than 7 GW”, he concluded.

In addition to the connections mark, the solar sector in Brazil recorded another achievement this Wednesday. “After the 400 thousand solar systems that we announced earlier, now it is the turn of 500 thousand consumer units, just for solar energy. With this achievement, the country has more than 511 thousand UCs, including solar, wind, hydraulic and thermal sources”, reported ABSOLAR.
