“Analyzing a lower cost scenario, without taking into account public policies and incentives, the expectation is that by 2050 the total photovoltaic DG (distributed generation) capacity will reach 84 GW of installed power in Brazil”.

This is the estimate of Luiza Demoro, Head of Country Transition Trends at BNEF (BloomberNEF). According to the expert, this total number represents expansive growth, as the Brazilian electricity matrix currently has around 175 GW.

Concerning centralized generation, the expectation is for 37 GW of accumulated capacity by 2050 – currently, there are around 3 GW of power.

“We are in a country that, in general, has a very positive history for investments in renewables and that is very well regarded by investors, despite the challenges we present, such as resolution 482”, said the BNEF analyst.

“Every time we talk to foreign investors or large companies, the message is always the same: Brazil is one of the main focuses, not only because of the size of the market, but because we have a stable and even innovative environment for investments in renewables” , he highlighted.

For Luiza, all sectors will face challenges over the years, but few will present the opportunities that the renewable energy segment offers to consumers.

GD reaches 5 GW of power

Distributed generation of solar energy reached the milestone this month 5 GW of installed power in Brazil. This is what the survey carried out by the Solar Channel based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

Currently, there are approximately 527 thousand UCs (Consumer Units) receiving credits and more than 422 thousand photovoltaic plants installed in around 5.2 thousand Brazilian cities.

According to projections by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association), DG will generate another 118 thousand jobs this year, R$ 17 billion in investments and R$ 4.5 billion in revenue to public coffers.
