According to the Brazilian Energy Review 2022, developed by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), the generation of solar energy in the Brazilian electrical matrix, it reached an increase of 55.9% in 2021.
This is the highest growth rate among renewables, with DG (distributed generation) already contributing 53.8% of photovoltaic sources in total.
To give you an idea, for example, in 2020 solar generated 10.7 GWh. Last year it was 16.7 GWh.
Regarding wind energy, it increased by 26.7%, with emphasis on Rio Grande do Norte, which became the state with the highest wind generation in Brazil.
According to the MME, the national installed generation capacity increased by 6.2%, reaching 190.6 GW in 2021, driven mainly by renewable sources, responsible for 89% of the expansion.
About the study
The Energy Review is a product of the Department of Information and Energy Studies (DIE), of the Secretariat of Energy Planning and Development (SPE), of the MME.
The edition, which is based on the year 2021, is marked by several challenges for the energy sector: the economic recovery in light of the mitigation of the social effects of the covid-19 pandemic; record water scarcity, with the lowest hydrological values in the historical series; and periods of drought in sugarcane producing regions.
