For the first time, a renewable energy company surpassed the market value of an oil company. This milestone occurred last Friday (2), when the American company NextEra, the largest generator of solar and wind energy in the world, became worth US$ 138.6 billion, surpassing the American oil company Exxon Mobil which at the same time was worth US$ 137.9 billion.
At the close of the market, the value of the oil company once again surpassed that of NextEra. However, this milestone demonstrates the expansion and appreciation of renewable sources, attracting more and more investments around the world.
Currently, NextEra has more than 200 energy generation facilities spread across the United States, the majority of which are solar or wind sources. Only about ten of them are from other sources, such as natural gas, nuclear and oil.
According to S&P Global Market Intelligence, a research and analysis company for investors, the value of NextEra has been growing in the market since 2009, increasing approximately 66% in the last two years alone.
