The French multinational GreenYellow signed a contract with Assaí Atacadista to supply renewable energy in the amount of 22 average MW in the free market, in yet another action by the wholesaler to make its operation more efficient and sustainable. The energy will supply the Assaí stores that will be opened throughout this year.

Assaí had already announced a 15-year contract to supply 117 GWh annually to serve 30 stores in the Northeast region. It also invested in the implementation of photovoltaic solar roofs aimed at local self-consumption. The wholesaler says that 95% of its energy already comes from clean sources.

“In addition to the financial issue – due to the predictability of energy consumption – we are making progress in migrating the supply of our stores from the captive system to the free market due to the positive impact that this change has on the environment. This decision makes our operations even more sustainable and in a short period of time”, says Lucas Attachedo, Project Manager at Assaí Atacadista.

“We believe that energy trading encouraged on the free market is a trend and that, from 2024, medium voltage consumers will be able to migrate to the free environment. With an eye on these opportunities, we are envisaging broad growth in GreenYellow's marketing activities during this period, mainly as a retailer. In this context, we offer the client the practicality to guide them on this journey, employing all our expertise in this process”, he defines Marcelo Xavier, president of GreenYellow.

It is worth highlighting that the energy negotiated in the agreement will have renewable energy certificates (I-RECs) so that Assaí Atacadista can ensure the neutralization of scope 2 emissions (from electricity consumption) from these units.
