Iberdrola busca soluções que integrem energia solar e atividades rurais

The Iberdrola group, through Perseo (International Startup Programme), is seeking sustainable, low-cost and environmentally friendly solutions to combine the implementation of photovoltaic plants and primary sector activities in rural areas. The company identifies this type of solution as agrovoltaic energy.

The group plans to invest 150 billion euros by 2030, increasing its renewable capacity to 95 GW by the end of the decade.

Currently, photovoltaic solar generation is one of the company's main growth pillars, resulting in the installation in 2020 of 874 MW of new solar capacity as a contribution to reaching around 35 GW of renewable capacity installed worldwide.

According to the company, the objective of the initiative is to identify competitive and innovative solutions that make it possible to combine photovoltaic solar plants with activities related to agriculture, horticulture, livestock farming, fish farming or beekeeping in such areas.

Furthermore, the team of experts from Iberdrola's Renewables division seeks solutions that promote the local economy, especially in regions with demographic challenges represented by progressive depopulation, while continuing to fight climate change and support the energy transition. .

The proposals, which will be analyzed by experts from Iberdrola's Renewable Business Unit, must explore the combination of solar photovoltaic generation with agriculture or horticulture; cattle; pisciculture; and beekeeping or other pollination methods.

They must propose solutions that contribute to improving or optimizing land productivity and that lead to better water management, temperature optimization, heat supply and cooling for facilities and processes.

Furthermore, they must offer competitive investment costs compared to conventional photovoltaic solutions and provide remotely operated solutions that allow fully autonomous management.

The deadline for submitting proposals is June 11th and the winner will be announced in September. The selected candidate will sign a collaboration agreement for the development of a proof of concept with Perseo, or any other relevant company in the Iberdrola group, which will assume the costs and provide the winner with the necessary technical support, giving access to infrastructure and real data to test the solution.
