Fire at Cemig substation leaves neighborhoods in BH without electricity

The cause of the fire has not yet been declared; according to Cemig there were no injuries

Several neighborhoods in the Central-South region of Belo Horizonte they are no energy after a fire hit the Cemig substation (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais) this Monday (08).

According to Fire Department captain Fabrício Dalfior, the fire started in the substation control room. The causes are still being investigated. Nobody was injured.

In total, eight neighborhoods are without electricity. They are: Sion, Santa Lúcia, São Pedro, Santo Antônio, Luxembrugo, Mangabeiras, Cruzeiro and Belvedere.

In a note, Cemig highlighted that it is carrying out load transfer maneuvers to restore supply in the shortest possible time.

Suspended services

Due to the lack of electricity, some municipal services are temporarily suspended. In addition to the deactivated traffic lights on streets in the affected neighborhoods, the Federal Police Superintendency battalion in Minas Gerais has suspended services until the energy in the area returns to normal.

According to the Municipal Health Department, some health centers located in the Center-South region are also without electricity and exams that require energy are suspended. “To guarantee assistance to users, if necessary, referrals are made to other units in the region”, informed the secretariat in a note.
