JA Solar will build 5 GW photovoltaic module factory

Agreement signed with the Chinese government also includes the implementation of a 2GW hybrid wind and solar energy project

Solar module manufacturer JA Solar has announced that it will build a 5 GW photovoltaic module factory in Chaoyang city, Liaoning province. The plant will be named “Jiaoyang Chaoyang Comprehensive New Energy Industrial Base”.

Furthermore, the agreement signed with the government also includes the implementation of a 2GW hybrid wind and solar energy project to supply the factory as well as the community. 

The investment for the construction of the new manufacturing unit and the hybrid project will be RMB10 billion (US$ 1.55 billion). The expectation is that both projects will be completed in five years.

Following JA Solar, as the world accelerates the process of carbon neutrality, the photovoltaic industry ushers in a new period of development opportunities. “JA Solar will accelerate the construction of the Chaoyang new energy project, actively lead the development and utilization of Chaoyang new energy resources, and contribute to global green development,” said Jin Baofang, president of JA Solar.

“JA Solar is in a leading position in China's photovoltaic industry. The signing of this project is a milestone for the development and growth of Chaoyang's new energy industry. The Chaoyang Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government will continuously support and provide the best service and the best environment for the development of JA in Chaoyang,” added Xie Weidong, the mayor of Chaoyang.
