Sorocaba Botanical Garden saves 95% per month with solar energy

Aiming to reduce CO₂ emissions and electricity bill costs, the “Irmãos Villas-Bôas” Botanical Garden in Sorocaba (SP) installed a photovoltaic system to supply energy to the space.

According to the city council, the installed power is 21,300 Wp, with 60 solar panels distributed over 121 m². The site's average monthly expenditure, which was R$ 1,300, fell to R$ 60, reducing expenditure by 95%. With this, the estimate is that R$ 15 thousand will be saved in one year.

In August last year, the city hall inaugurated at the Sema headquarters (Secretariat of the Environment, Parks and Gardens), located in the Vila Hortência neighborhood, a 9,420 Wp photovoltaic system with 28 photovoltaic solar panels installed on the roof of the building.

“The installation of the panels has already had a considerable impact on our energy bill, which was on average R$ 800 and today is below R$ 100”, commented Gentil Cesar Jr, head of the Environmental education and educommunication division.

In addition to the photovoltaic system in Jardim Botânico, the implementation of the north-south axis of the BRT, which came into operation in August this year, is also an important ally for the city to contribute to the reduction of pollutant emissions, as well as encouraging the use of public transport in the city.

With the exception of the bus fleet, the entire BRT system has photovoltaic modules, which are responsible for supplying administrative and operational units, installations and fixed structures, such as boarding and disembarking terminals, and stopping points.
