Enel Green Power Spain has signed a renewable energy purchase agreement with health and wellness multinational Johnson & Johnson to supply 270 GWh/year.

The 10-year contract starts from January 2023 and will see the company operating with the equivalent of 100% of clean electricity in Europe by 2023.

According to the company, this is an important step towards the climate goal of having all global operations coming from sustainable sources by 2025.

The planned energy supply will be generated in three renewable plants, currently under construction, creating a hybrid matrix that will combine solar and wind.

Johnson & Johnson said 85% of the electricity will come from the Campillo II and III wind farms, which are part of a cluster located in the Spanish province of Cuenca and which began construction in the last quarter of 2021.

The remaining 15% will be supplied by the 47 MW plant, PV Veracruz, which is located in Badajoz. With this, the company will avoid the annual emission of around 130,720 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

“We are very proud to sign this contract with Johnson & Johnson and to become their 'green enabler',” said Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power and Head of Enel's Global Power Generation business line.

“This innovative agreement, with a hybrid combination of wind and solar renewable sources, shows the possibilities that pan-European virtual PPAs can offer companies, enhancing their sustainability journey in the fight against climate change across the continent”, he highlighted.
