The north coast of São Paulo receives the first ultra-fast charging station

EDP, an energy distribution company in Brazil, inaugurated on Wednesday (21), the first public ultra-fast electric vehicle charger in Brazil, located at Shopping Serra Mar, in Caraguatatuba.

The structure has two chargers, one of which already guarantees a range of 100 km after 15 minutes of charging. The charging service is free, but the possibility of a later charge cannot be ruled out.

The Plug&Go project is carried out in partnership with manufacturers Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen, in addition to the companies ABB, Siemens and Electric Mobility Brasil, coordinated by the Gesel group. The state is expected to receive up to 30 such facilities over the next three years.

The project, which was approved in the strategic call by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) last year, is budgeted at R$ 33 million. The objective is to allow the simultaneous charging of up to three vehicles, with ultra- and semi-fast options.

Semi-fast equipment has a power of 22 kW AC, while ultra-fast equipment has 150 kW DC and 350 kW DC.

During a press conference, Nuno Pinto, director of the company's electromobility area, stated that the location was chosen due to the flow of vehicles coming from Rio de Janeiro and the beaches of São Paulo.

“The other stations must be installed on the main highways of São Paulo and interconnected with charging stations from other initiatives”, stated the director.

The executive cited highways such as Anhanguera, Bandeirantes, Fernão Dias and Régis Bittencourt, which connect with the interior of São Paulo, Brasília (DF) Belo Horizonte (MG), Curitiba (PR) and Florianópolis (SC).

According to him, this project is the largest in South America in terms of ultra-fast chargers and, this year alone, another ten new charging stations will be installed.

To facilitate the process, including the exact location of charging stations and their operating status in real time, an application was developed, available for Android and iOS.

Nuno Pinto also concluded by saying that this project is the largest, and pioneering, in South America in terms of ultra-fast chargers and, this year alone, another ten new charging stations will be installed.
