More than 300 thousand roofs and lands have solar energy in Brazil, says ABSOLAR

Photovoltaic energy provides financial savings and environmental sustainability to 374.4 thousand consumer units. This is what a study carried out by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), released this week, pointed out.

Still according to ABSOLAR, the solar source already represents 3.6 GW of operational installed power, since 2012. During this period, attracting more than R$ 18.2 billion in new investments in the country, being responsible for the creation of more than 108 thousand jobs.

The survey also showed that in terms of the number of systems installed, the residential modality is in evidence, with 72.5% of the total. Further down the list are companies in the commerce and services sectors (17.7%), rural consumers (6.8%), industries (2.6%), public authorities (0.4%) and other sectors, such as public services (0.03% ) and public lighting (0.01%).

In terms of installed power, the commerce and service sectors are leading the use of solar energy, with 39.1% of installed power in Brazil, followed by residential consumers (38.0%), rural consumers (12.7%), industries (8 .8%), public power (1.2%) and other types, such as public services (0.1%) and public lighting (0.02%).

Bárbara Rubim, vice president of distributed generation at ABSOLAR, pointed out the advantages of investing in the market. “Solar energy will play an increasingly strategic role in achieving the country’s economic development goals, especially at this time, to help the economy recover after the pandemic, as it is the renewable source that generates the most jobs in the world.”

ABSOLAR also showed, through a survey, that in the last twelve months, around 162 thousand new distributed generation systems from solar sources were added in Brazil, representing a growth of more than 130% in the period.

Despite progress in recent years, the country still represents a small solar energy market, as, with more than 84.4 million electricity consumers, only 0.4% uses the sun to produce electricity. Among the Brazilian states with the highest installed power are: Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, São Paulo, Paraná and Mato Grosso.

“In 2015 and 2016, Brazil's GDP fell by more than -3.5% per year, but the solar photovoltaic sector grew by more than 100% in the same period. With this, the sector helped the country to get out of that economic crisis faster. Now, the photovoltaic solar source will boost Brazil's recovery once again. Solar is part of the solution, both for our society and for the environment”, highlighted Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR.

Income Release

Investment in solar energy has helped consumers save approximately R$ 4.7 million since 2012. This amount was used to purchase other products and services, contributing to the Brazilian economy.

The information was estimated by ABSOLAR and considers official data on the different sizes of systems, compensation modalities, taxation, solar irradiation and electricity tariffs.
