O Brazil registered the entry into commercial operation in 61 solar power plants us first seven months of 2023, according to data published by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

This is a volume that exceeds more than twice the total of 25 photovoltaic plants that came into operation in the country over the course of the same period last year.

This Wednesday (09), Brazil surpassed the symbolic mark of 10 GW of operational capacity in GC solar plants (centralized generation), of which 2.29 GW were added between January and July 2023.

In the same period last year, for comparison purposes, they were added to the electrical matrix national only 0.66 GW for the segment, according to ANEEL.

In this year, the volume of solar plants that entered into commercial operation only is not greater than the number of wind farms (79 projects, with 2.73 GW added to the electrical matrix).

Together, solar and wind plants represent around 88.3% of Brazilian installed capacity in 2023.

Us first seven months of the year, ANEEL also registered the entry into operation of 25 thermoelectric plants (531.4 MW), eight small hydroelectric plants (122.2 MW) and three hydroelectric generating plants (11.4 MW).

For the general director of ANEEL, Sandoval Feitosa, the expansion of the Brazilian electricity matrix in the year reflects the good moment of energy generation in the country, especially renewable sources. “The result continues the accelerated expansion that we are seeing,” he said.
