Mercado livre de energia cresce 18% em maio de 2021

According to a survey carried out by CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber), the free energy market ended the month of May 2021 with 9,232 consumers, an increase of 18% compared to the same period in 2020.

“This migration trend occurs precisely because of a strategy to reduce the cost of energy. So, we now have a regulated market, with tariff flags and the free consumer stops paying some subsidies”, explains Pedro Dante, a lawyer specializing in regulatory matters in the electricity sector.

“In 2015, there was a large increase in the cost of energy, and now in 2021, the expectation is that it will encourage consumers to choose to buy this electricity from a third party, from a supplier, a generator, and only pay the fixed remuneration for the distributor”, adds Dante.

The CCEE also provided a comparative analysis of the previous months of 2021. In January, the number of consumer agents joining was 172, in February 140, in March 139, in April 146 and in May there were 132 new agents.

The energy segment records an average of 146 new monthly consumers, the second highest monthly average of additions in its history, behind the 192 monthly registered in 2016.

The total volume of consumer units also had a significant increase since January, around 32% in the annual comparison, totaling 23,899 loads in May. The Chamber's survey considered both free and special consumers.
