Free Energy Market grows 330% in one year in Rio de Janeiro

O Mercado Livre de Energia grew 330% in Rio de Janeiro between January 2023 it's the same month in 2024

The number of UCs (consumer units) jumped from 101 to 435, according to data from CCEE (Electricity Trading Chamber).

Furthermore, the number of average MW contractors increased from 18.19 to 50.02 in this period. 

In the state, the company with the highest number of UCs in the free contracting environment is the TYR Energy, with 67 units, followed by Genial Energy and for EDP Smart Energy.

“We are very optimistic about the growth of the Free Energy Market in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The modality brings a revolution in the way of dealing with energy bills, reducing costs by up to 40% and increasing companies' energy efficiency, thanks to monitoring energy consumption in real time”, explained the executive director of TYR Energia, Joana Waldburger .

Although the ACL (Free Contracting Environment) has grown over the last few years, the executive points out that there is still enormous potential for growth with the entry of small and medium-sized companies into this market. 

“This will undoubtedly bring a leap in efficiency and competitiveness to the state’s economy as a whole,” added Waldburger.
