O Free market of energy reached the mark of 10,585 consumer agents in August, recording a growth of 6.6% compared to December 2021, according to data released by CCEE (Electricity Trading Chamber).

O segment, which allows you to negotiate contracts directly with input suppliers, since matches for more than 35% of the country's total electricity consumption.

In CCEE’s assessment, the expansion is linked to three factors: greater financial viability, budget predictability (with contracting on demand) and the possibility of opting for a supply of renewable sources.

The Free category – which groups those with a load greater than 1 MW and who can trade energy generated by any type of source – grew 14.7% in the year.

The special range, formed by those with contracted demand between 500 kW and 1 MW and who have the right to purchase energy from incentivized sources, such as wind, solar, biomass and PCHs (Small Hydroelectric Plants), increased 5.5%.

As each agent can represent different loads, the Chamber also surveys the total number of UCs (Consumer Units) in the market. At the end of August, the free environment had 29,390 UCs, an increase of almost 10% compared to the 26,724 registered in December 2021.

In recent months, the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) held a Public Consultation to discuss the opening of the free market for all consumers who are served at high voltage.

The proposal, which foresees liberalization for this range from 2024, included technical collaboration from CCEE, so that the process occurs in a continuous, sustainable and predictable manner.
