The director of energy and decarbonization at OK, Ludmilla Nascimento, stated this Tuesday (17), at an event in São Paulo (SP), that the mining company will be able to achieve, until the end of this year, The goal of consuming only renewable energy in Brazil.

Previously, The company had informed that this target would only be achieved in 2025. A anticipation, however, occurs because of implementation of a solar power plant: The Cerrado Sun, installed in the municipality of Jaíba (MG), in November last year.

The project – considered one of the largest photovoltaic parks in Latin America, with an installed capacity of 766 MWp – entered commercial operation in July this year and, since then, has represented 16% of all energy consumed by Vale in Brazil.

“With this volume, we can already achieve all the consumption we need to ensure that all the energy we use comes from renewable energy”, stated Ludmilla during the 24th IBGC Congress.

Vale's future plans

During the event, Vale's director also shared the company plans for the renewable energy sector, as a possible implementation of eletric cars in the company fleet. “We are studying the electrification of the fleet and also an electric truck pilot,” he said.

The executive also commented that Vale is studying projects of Green Hydrogen with partners to use ammonia on railways so that the fuel can be used by the company to replace diesel and natural gas in the steel sector.
