MME defines auction schedule for the next three years

New ordinance provides for seven energy auctions to be held each year from 2023 to 2025

O MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) published, this Thursday (22), a concierge which establishes the auction schedule for contracting electricity generation during the three-year period from 2023 to 2025. 

During the period, 7 competitions are planned each year: the Capacity Reserve Auction, under the terms of Law No. 14,182, of 2021, in the months of July; the “A-4” and “A-6” auctions in August; the Auction for Supply to Isolated Systems, in October; the Capacity Reserve Auction in the form of power, in November and the “A-1 and “A-2” auctions, in December.

The new ordinance also states that distribution agents should present forecasts of necessity of contracting for auctions “A-4” and “A-6” until September 15th of the previous year. 

O objective of this measure and the knowledge of the need for hiring before the publication of ordinances of guidelines for these auctions, allowing for more precise planning of the events. 

A The ordinance also includes the possibility of holding annual auctions to contract reserve capacity, in the form of power, if this need is identified in energy planning and electrical system operation studies.

Likewise, these supply events for isolated systems are subject to the contracting of a supply solution to expand the supply presented in the planning studies, carried out by EPE (Energy Planning Company).
