O MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) and the ONS (National Electrical System Operator) signed an agreement for investments of R$ 31.6 million at the electrical sector until 2025.

According to the Bodies, the amount will be applied within the scope of the Technical Assistance Project for the Energy and Mineral Sectors – Meta Project.

“The results of the work will allow ONS to provide more transparency and visibility to services delivered to society, agents and institutions in the energy sector, allowing act more objectively in the search for cost reduction and increased benefits”, said the MME in a note.

According to the Ministry, the contribution must be allocated to three structuring projects. The first will evaluate the evolution of the SIN (National Interconnected System) and the performance of the ONS, covering aspects such as reliability, resilience, flexibility, sustainability, accessibility and security.

In the second, the possible influences of climate change in flow regimes, precipitation and other meteorological variables, with an impact on the SIN.

“They will also be researched changes in atmospheric patterns and possible influences. Furthermore, it will be possible to construction of flow scenarios, which will serve as subsidies for service studies, in a more economical way, considering both operation criteria and the expansion of transmission lines”, they highlighted.

Finally, the MME commented that the growing increase in generation from renewable sources brings challenges to planning the expansion, operation and commercialization of energy.

"A photovoltaic production, which is already the third largest source in Brazil, has uncertainties associated with meteorological factors, causing inevitable forecast deviations, which brings to the ONS the need to predict a greater power reserve to meet load variations”, they pointed out.

Such circumstances, in Pasta's view, increase the cost of operation, consequently generating more charges, reflecting a possible higher cost to the consumer.

Meta Project

O Meta Project is the result of a loan agreement between the MME and the IBRD (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development), totaling US$ 38 million in investments.

The objective of the program is to contribute to expanding and consolidating advances in the energy and mining sectors, supporting the country's competitiveness and sustainable economic growth, as well as the institutional modernization of these sectors.
