Multinational will open solar panel factory at airport in Brazil

Amerisolar announced that the unit will be installed at BH Industrial Airport in 2021

Amerisolar Brasil announced that its new solar panel factory, which will be installed at Belo Horizonte International Airport (MG), should begin operating at the terminal, in Confins, in the first half of 2021.

The multinational had previously announced that the unit would be opened in May, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic the works were delayed.

According to the company, the factory will have a production capacity of 30,000 panels per month. Of the total, 50% is expected to be exported to Latin American countries, including Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile and Colombia.

Fernando Passalio, deputy secretary of Headquarters (Secretariat of Economic Development), highlighted that the project is a pioneer in the country and will be the gateway to attracting new investments.

“Minas, for many years, was recognized as the mining state. Now, it also becomes a reference as the State of solar energy generation. Having a component factory for the renewable sector is a source of great pride for us. In addition to enabling cost reduction, the partnership tends to bring greater attractiveness to our market”, highlighted Passalio.

The executive also said that the company's arrival at the only industrial airport in the country is a milestone that consolidates Minas Gerais, in the context of the economic diversification process, as a logistics distribution hub in Brazil.

“We will have an increasing density of industries that operate in the area of foreign trade and will strengthen the internal and external markets”, he concluded.

This is Amerisolar's sixth factory in the world. The others are located in Australia, China, South Korea, the United States and Cambodia.
