ONS participates in COP27 for the first time

National Electric System Operator discusses topics on energy transition

The ONS (National Electric System Operator) was invited to participate in COP-27, between November 11th and 18th in the city of Sharm El Sheik, Egypt.

The event raises topics about the energy transition, with emphasis on clean energy, where Brazil represents more than half of use in renewables.

“As system operators, we are convinced that the world is moving towards having more clean energy sources, an aspect in which Brazil is a leader, with a renewable 85% electrical matrix”, says Luiz Carlos Ciocchi, general director of ONS.

“We need to be prepared to operate this increasingly complex system, anticipating solutions that are suitable for the operation of the SIN (National Interconnected System)”, he adds.

Still according to the director general, the agenda for company commitments correspond to the topics discussed at COP27, which is actively participating in the conference for the first time.

“The event is important for us to hear what is happening in the world in relation to decarbonization, energy transition and sustainability”, he highlights.

In addition to Ciocchil, the ONS delegation at COP27 is made up of Alexandre Nunes Zucarato, director of Planning, Carolina Garcia Medeiros, executive manager of Communication and Relationship with Society, and Fábio Reis Côrtes, executive manager of Energy Transformation.
