The Northeast continues to break records for solar generation in 2021. Last Monday (28), the Brazilian region recorded around 681 average MW, according to information from ONS (National Electric System Operator).
This is a value that represents 6.4% of the entire regional energy demand. The number also indicated a growth of 2.1% compared to the last record, which was registered on May 24th, with 667 average MW.
The ONS also highlighted that the photovoltaic source also broke, this week, a new record in instantaneous generation, in the early afternoon of last Saturday (26), by reaching the mark of 1,873 MW produced.
The value represents an increase of 17.7% in demand in the region, surpassing the last record that had been recorded on April 8th.
Wind energy
In addition to the indices obtained by solar, another source of renewable generation that gained prominence this week in the Northeast was wind, which was responsible for an instantaneous generation of 10,856 MW, at the end of Saturday night.
The amount was reached at 11:44 pm, being sufficient to meet 96.1% of the region's subsystem demand at that time. The last record was recorded about a month ago, on May 26, when 10,612 MW were produced.
Future perspectives
Both solar and wind energy have been growing significantly in Brazil in recent years, according to data from the ONS itself. Currently, the wind source represents 10.6% of the Brazilian electricity matrix and the expectation is that it will reach 11.1% by the end of the year. Photovoltaic energy represents just over 2% of the electrical matrix, with the expectation of reaching more than 2.5% by the end of 2021.
