The national energy load – sum of consumption and electrical losses – should reach 83,286 MWmed (average megawatts) in February, which if confirmed will represent a growth of 6.4% compared to the same period last year.
The most significant increases are expected in the submarkets North (13.2% – 7,543 MWmed) and South (11.6% – 15,879 MWmed). The projections for the other regions were as follows: North East, 7.9% (13,556 MWmed) and Southeast/Midwest, with 3.3% (46,308 MWmed).
The data released last Friday (9) comes two days after the record cargo demand in SIN (National Interconnected System). At 2:15 pm on February 7, instantaneous demand reached 101,860 MW.
According to the ONS, the load behavior was influenced by high temperatures and the return to school. “The previous mark was 101,475 MW, confirmed on November 14, 2023.”
At the end of January, the ONS estimated national load growth at 5.5% (82,607 MWmed) in February. At that time, the agency had already signaled the need for thermoelectric generation to meet peak load times.
However, in the week from the 3rd to the 9th of February, the entity reduced the SIN load growth to 4.5% and now in the latest bulletin it increased it to 6.4%.
