First phase of the Futura 1 Project will have Vertex panels

The initial shipment of modules will leave China in 108 containers and will contain 59,292 600 W bifacial modules

Trina Solar will supply its Vertex panels for the Futura 1 Project, a project with 22 solar energy parks that is being developed by Focus Energia, in Juazeiro (BA).

The project will be implemented in three phases. The first phase will have an installed capacity of 850 MWp, placing the project among the largest in Brazil at the moment.

According to Trina, the initial shipment of modules will leave China in 108 containers in the second week of August and will contain 59,292 600 W bifacial panels, with 210 mm cells.

“Trina Solar has the most advanced technology and the most powerful modules with excellent performance. This helped Focus choose us”, said Álvaro García Maltrás, vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean at Trina Solar.

According to Focus Energia, the project's energy production will be entirely destined for the free market. The strategy follows the most recent trend in which developers of renewable generation projects prefer to negotiate directly with customers, instead of competing in auctions promoted by ANEEL, to exclusively serve the captive market.

According to Alan Zelazo, CEO of Focus, the estimate is that 2,000 direct jobs and 4,000 indirect jobs will be created during the implementation of the system.

The executive also highlights that Futura 1 comes at an opportune time for Brazil. “Despite being a long-term project, we are pleased to collaborate with the country to increase its production capacity in an extremely critical period of water crisis.”

The project will also feature solutions from the manufacturer Sungrow, which will supply inverters and transformation stations for the implementation of the first phase of the Futura project. According to Sungrow, more than 100 transformation stations, more than 3,000 inverters will be provided, in addition to commissioning and startup services.

The work is already underway and there are 550 people working on site. Operations are scheduled to begin in April 2022.

Trina in Brazil

Present in Brazil since 2017, Trina Solar sees a lot of potential in the country. “Brazil is the main market in Latin America for solar energy. It is a super dynamic market with strong growth and a priority for Trina Solar. We entered a little later than our competitors, but now we are solidifying ourselves in the country”, says Álvaro.

Trina Solar has hundreds of megawatts already installed in the Latin America and Caribbean region and is moving forward with new agreements with other important customers in the Brazilian market. Furthermore, according to Álvaro, the company has signed contracts for almost 2 additional GW for bifacial modules in the coming months.
