The state of Piauí ranks first in solar energy generation in Brazil, according to information from ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), which considered in the research the installed power, projects under construction and to be built.

ABSOLAR points out that the state reached the rate of 1,147.4 MW, ahead of Ceará (910 MW) and Bahia (804 MW), leaving Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraíba and Tocantins behind.

Still according to the entity, Piauí is second in the ranking among the states with the most projects to be built (300 MW), behind only Ceará (697 MW).

“This is the result of the intense work we have been doing. Piauí has great potential and has been demonstrating this to the entire country”, highlighted Wilson Brandão, secretary of Seminper (Mining, Petroleum and Renewable Energy Secretariat).

According to Seminper's analysis, over the next 15 years, the economy will remain strong in the renewable energy sector in Piauí.

Other data

Electricity generation in Piauí increased by around 50% from 2015 to 2016 and, in 2018, it quintupled the amount generated in 2015, according to a survey carried out by EPE (Energy Research Company).

According to ABSOLAR, the perspective is that the numbers will continue to advance, given that Piauí had a large number of projects registered in the latest energy auctions carried out by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), especially solar energy projects.

Below is a graph released by ABSOLAR that shows centralized generation data in Brazil.97399794_1528091714035223_2833983240543404032_o.jpg
