This Monday (22), Guilherme Zanetti, director of DPOTI (Department of Planning and Grants for Transmission and Distribution of Electric Energy and International Interconnections) of MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), spoke about the works planned in the first transmission auction of the year.

According to him, the works will increase the integration of the North and Northeast regions with the rest of the SIN (National Interconnected System).

“With this, it is strategic to expand Brazil’s capacity to generate clean and renewable energy, more specifically that generated in the Northeast region. This is a very positive result for Brazil, after all the electrical system needs continuous expansion”, stated Zanetti.

Thais Araújo, general coordinator of Transmission Planning replacing MME's DPOTI, presented the energy planning for the next 10 years.

“Wind and solar generations are expected to grow by 30%, while generation from fossil fuel and nuclear thermoelectric plants will decrease by around 27%,” said the coordinator.

Furthermore, she recalled that the 50% composition of the Brazilian energy matrix is renewable energy, placing the country in a favorable situation.

Araújo and Zanetti's speeches took place during the workshop from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) for clarifications on the auction of transmission lines.

The event also included the participation of MME, EPE (Energy Research Company) and ONS (National Electric System Operator).

Electric energy transmission is expected to grow by 20% over the next 10 years, according to the PDE (Ten-Year Energy Expansion Plan) forecast.

EPE studies indicate the addition of 41 thousand km of transmission lines by 2032. With this, Brazil would reach 220 thousand km of transmission lines throughout the territory

About the Auction

The first auction of this year, scheduled for March, is expected to bid for another 6,400 km of transmission lines. In addition, there will be concessions for sectioning and 9,200 MVA in transformation capacity in substations.

The service concessions will cover 13 states. They are: Alagoas (AL), Bahia (BA), Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Maranhão (MA), Minas Gerais (MG), Paraíba (PB), Pernambuco (PE), Piauí (PI), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Rio Grande do Norte (RN), Santa Catarina (SC), São Paulo (SP) and Tocantins (TO).
