At a meeting held last Monday (7), a project for the construction of the new Litoral Piauiense Solar Complex was presented.

The agenda was discussed by governor Wellington Dias (PT) and investors from Quinta Solar Energia. Construction of the first part of the complex is scheduled for 2024.

The meeting was also attended by Howzembergson de Brito, secretary of Mining, Petroleum and Renewable Energy, Rejane Tavares, secretary of Planning and the vice-governor of the state of Piauí, Regina Sousa (PT).

The proposal offers a new solar complex for the production of clean energy on the coast and will receive investment of R$ 4.4 billion over a 24-month period.

The complex will consist of 22 photovoltaic plants. Each of them will have a production capacity of 50 MW of clean energy, totaling 1.1 GW of power, which is equivalent to supplying 1 million and 600 homes. With the first part of construction scheduled for 2024, the second part is scheduled for 2025, starting operations in 2026.

According to the government of Piauí, the construction will occupy a total area of 2,735 hectares, where the solar modules will be installed. Also according to the governor, the photovoltaic plants will be built in the municipalities of Luís Correia and Bom Princípio. “It is a great investment, which will bring a great return for our State. Here we had access to the environmental project and the schedule, which are already ready and presented”, stated Dias.

During the meeting, vice-governor Regina highlighted the importance of taking care of the social sphere when faced with large investments like this. “People and families are always impacted by projects, whether big or small. Care must be taken with anyone who lives in the region. Look carefully at what affects residents and mitigate these effects until the work is completed”, he explained.

Since 2016, the state of Piauí has shown progress in the solar energy sector, currently housing one of the largest photovoltaic energy plants in Latin America, the Nova Olinda Solar Park, located in the municipality of Ribeira do Piauí.

According to Secretary Brito, the project promises to offer better development, in addition to generating jobs and income for the people of Piauí, especially in the region where the parks will be installed.

“It is the state of Piauí contributing to national and even global development, in the case of energy production and generation. We believe in the project presented by Quinta Solar and it becomes a reality in our State, and the north of Piauí will receive this large investment, generating more than 2 thousand direct and indirect jobs”, he certified.

Diogo Amatto, legal director of Quinta Solar, highlighted that the project is awaiting authorization from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) It is ONS (National Electric System Operator). “Next year, we will negotiate construction contracts. These are large companies that will build this complex and they will actually employ it. We intend to provide training to facilitate the entry of people from Piauí into this project”, he highlighted.
