The state of Rio de Janeiro reached the mark 1 GW of installed power in own energy generation, almost all of which is through the connection of photovoltaic systems.

It is a volume what equivalent to consumption about of 500 thousand homes, according to data from ABGD (Brazilian Association of Distributed Generation).

According to the entity, the Rio de Janeiro now becomes the 9th state of Brazil to overcome the barrier of 1 GW of installed power in the distributed micro and minigeneration segment.

The state joins Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Santa Catarina, Goiás and Bahia in this regard.

Among Rio's municipalities, the state capital has the largest installed capacity in distributed generation, with more than 211 MW. Next, Campos dos Goytacazes (66.7 MW) and Niterói (48.9 MW) appear.

Until early this Friday morning (17), the Brazil counted little more than 24.75 GW of distributed installed capacity. Five years ago, at the end of 2018, this value had not even reached 1 GW.

Such growth in so little time has placed the country among the biggest powers in the segment, especially when it comes to its own solar energy generation systems.

In the latest report released by IRENA (International Renewable Energy Agency), the Brazil occupied the 8th place in the world solar energy ranking, with more than two thirds of its generation coming from DG (distributed generation) systems.
