O Uptown shopping center located in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, implemented a solar energy system on the project's roof. The mall's expectation is to save R$ 28 million over the next 25 years.

According to Alex Conceição, Uptown Operations Manager, in the first phase of the project, 341 solar panels were implemented, in total 918 monocrystalline modules of 445 W each will be installed. The system will have a total power of 500 kW.

“The forecast with the energy concessionaire (Light) is that the solar plant will be at full load (100% of its capacity) in December 2021, providing energy to power the common areas of the 12 blocks that make up the project”, explains .

Also according to Conceição, in the first phase, the energy generated will power the common areas of blocks 1 to 4 and by the end of December the other blocks from 5 to 12. The next phase of the project does not yet have a defined date, but the expectation is which also serves the 250 local stores.

The implementation of the photovoltaic system was carried out in partnership with the energy solutions company Kompass. According to the company, the system will supply 100% of the electrical energy consumed by Uptown.

“The project is among the 20 largest in Rio. The energy is generated in the same place where it is consumed, which makes the project even cleaner in terms of environmental impact”, highlights Caio Monteiro, director of Kompass Energia.
