SMA anuncia inversor híbrido Sunny Tripower Smart Energy no Brasil
Equipment is available in four power classes and is intended for use in homes

The SMA hybrid inverter Sunny Tripower Smart Energy is now available on the Brazilian market. The announcement was made by the manufacturer this Thursday (4). According to the company, the equipment is available in four power classes (5 kW, 6 kW, 8 kW and 10 kW) and is intended for use in homes.

“With Sunny Tripower Smart Energy, SMA has taken another important step on the path to an independent, economical and climate-friendly energy supply,” he says Jan Van Laethem, executive vice president of SMA's Home Solutions Business unit.

Still according to the manufacturer, the new inverter expands the range of possibilities offered by the SMA Energy System Home. “This is a compact kit, a 2-in-1 model, that allows homes and small businesses to use self-generated photovoltaic energy in an even more flexible way,” the company said in a press release.

SMA also highlighted that one of the benefits of the inverter hybrid is the reduction in the costs of charging stations for electric vehicles, which can be easily connected via integrated interfaces. Furthermore, it reported that the automatic supply of backup current integrated into the inverter ensures that consumer equipment continues to function in the event of a blackout.

“The new hybrid inverter is an innovative extension of the SMA Energy System Home and is the ideal solution for generating, storing and using photovoltaic energy in a comfortable and modern way. The system allows our customers to considerably reduce their energy costs and the costs associated with mobility and heat generation. At the same time, they can also meet their own demands for sustainable energy supply and climate protection,” adds Laethem.

SMA further clarified that the inverter is compatible with high voltage DC coupled batteries and can be used in new and existing photovoltaic systems. Furthermore, the equipment can be commissioned quickly and intuitively with the help of the SMA 360° installer app, without having to open the device. The system has the software SMA ShadeFix, which aims to obtain maximum energy performance in the event of shadows and guarantee the greatest possible safety.

Regulation of hybrid inverters in Brazil

Sources in the solar sector informed the Solar Channel that the Inmetro (National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology) should soon present a update of Ordinance No. 004/2011 so that hybrid inverters are regulated in the Brazilian photovoltaic market.

Today, according to Brazilian standards, there is no regulation for the use of hybrid inverters connected to the grid. The legislation only allows the installation of inverters for renewable sources connected to the electrical grid, but operation with batteries, in on-grid or off-grid mode, is not yet regulated.

André Gellers, country manager at SMA, highlights that the measure will represent a milestone for the solar energy sector. “Hybrid systems are already a reality in Brazil. Today there are many inverters installed that do not inject into the grid. I believe it is past time for us to have regulations that help this technology contribute to energy generation,” he stated.
