O Brazil increased the participation of renewable sources at internal supply of energy and electricity between the years 2021 and 2022, reveals a new report published by MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) this Tuesday (03).

According to the study, the renewability index of energy matrix reached the mark 47,4% (compared to 14.4% in the world) and 87.9% in the case of the electrical matrix (contrasting with the world average index of 28%).

At energy matrix, the hydraulic source saw an increase of 14% in the year, with other renewables (including solar and wind), advancing 20% in the period. Already in electrical matrix, hydraulic generation increased by 17.7%, while wind generation grew by 12.9% and solar registered a significant increase of 79.8%.

The study also showed that the year 2022 he was marked by a record expansion of intermittent renewable sources, with an emphasis on solar generation through distributed micro and minigeneration.

The document also revealed that the increased solar generation over the past year was higher than that observed in 2021, which was 55.9%, and was guided by the consolidation of the legal framework of G.D. (distributed generation), generating a increase in photovoltaic energy installation in the residential and commercial sectors.

“This result indicates a reduction in losses associated with transformation and distribution and better efficiency in the use of energy to meet the country’s demands”, assessed the MME.

According to Pasta, in addition to advances in electrical generation from renewable sources, there was a increase in installed electrical generation capacity, which reached 206.4 GW in 2022, which represents an index 8.3% higher than 2021, with renewables representing more than 95.0% of the total expansion (15.9 GW).

The Brazilian Energy Review is an annual publication of the Department of Information, Studies and Energy Efficiency, of the National Secretariat for Energy Transition and Planning.

This year, the document additionally includes the topic of Energy Efficiency, also providing a virtual platform for presenting data, in the format of interactive reports, accessed from the MME's electronic address.
